This fight week for Daniel Dubois has begun with the former IBF heavyweight world champion making a habit of walking out of interviews.
Dubois (22-3, 21 KOs) challenges Fabio Wardley for the WBO world title this Saturday in Manchester courtesy of Frank Warren’s Queensberry Promotions. Dubois has been under Warren’s guidance for the entirety of his professional career, the pair working together since 2017.
The 28-year-old Londoner has never been famous for his onscreen charisma, but this week has seen him walkout of interviews with broadcaster DAZN and Ariel Helwani.
“For me as a promoter, I want him to do the interviews and I want the interviews to go well, but he doesn’t like doing it,” Warren told TalkSport. “He just does not like the press! It’s fight week and obviously this is the week you do the most press. It’s part of the job, but for some reason yesterday he didn’t want to do it. Then when I think back to when he knocked out AJ [Anthony Joshua], I had to go and get him out of the dressing room and take him to the press conference.”
Dubois’ spectacular fifth round knockout against arguably the biggest name in British boxing saw his name etched into the history books, defending his IBF belt in-front of close to 90,000 spectators at Wembley Stadium.
“He wanted to go home,” Warren continued. “You would think he would want to go to the press conference to be loud and laud his fantastic win, but it didn’t bother him. He just wanted to get home.”
