Dillian Whyte could be on the verge of bypassing a potential shot at Anthony Joshua.
The WBC ‘Silver’ heavyweight champion has been mentioned as the front runner to face the unified World champion at Wembley Stadium later this year.
Joshua has yet to find a foe for his April 13 date at the national football stadium, exclusively live on Sky Sports Box Office in the UK, and it was thought that Whyte would fill the void should his team be unable to secure showdowns with either former unified king Tyson Fury or current WBC champion Deontay Wilder, who is the number one target.
But rumours have surfaced that Whyte, now a free agent after his deal with Eddie Hearn and Matchroom expired, could be about to sidestep a mult-million-pound offer in favour of heading to the Premier Boxing Champions and a showdown with Dominic Breazeale.
Talks between Breazeale and Whyte were held last year, but the duo were unable to agree terms, and the Californian went on to defeat Carlos Negron in December, while the Brixton man stopped Dereck Chisora in a rematch at the O2 Arena in London, exclusively live on Sky Sports Box Office, on the same night.
“I hope he does make some type of deal with the PBC, if not some type of a deal with the personnel that’s around for me and him making a fight,” Breazeale, who has already faced and lost to Joshua, said recently.
The American is the mandatory to the aforementioned Wilder’s WBC belt, while ‘Body Snatcher’ Whyte is the number one with the sanctioning body.
“I will fight him in America,” Whyte said of a potential fight with Breazeale. “But what can he offer me to come to America? I’ll offer him more to come to the UK.
“If he wants to fight, we can fight. It’s an easy fight to make, let’s make it. Let’s do it, end of April, or early May. If he wants it, he can get it.”
