Curmel Moton Won’t be Next For Giorgio Visioli

Matchroom chairman Eddie Hearn, the long-time representative for flourishing English fighter Giorgio Visioli, revealed after the 22-year-old’s latest win what’s next for the lightweight.

Visioli turned pro in 2023 but has already built a 11-0 (6 KOs) record to date, won the English lightweight belt after besting Joe Howarth in London, last year, and then defended the strap with a lopsided win over Levi Giles in the country’s capital, on March 21. The bout was on the undercard of George Liddard’s win over the scrappy Tyler Denny.

It’s not just Britain that Visioli is building a reputation in, but Stateside, too, with Las Vegas locals curious about his sparring and emerging rivalry with the city’s fast-rising fighter Curmel Moton, a protege of the American boxing phenom Floyd Mayweather.

Moton and Visioli have engaged in a war of words ever since, and it seems clear that a fight between them could prove lucrative now, or in the near future once they are more established, or both, with a series of fights developing between them.

For Visioli, it seems his preference is further honors domestically. “I’m down for anyone,” he said, according to Ring Magazine. “The plan is to go down the British route, I don’t need to call anyone out – that’s not me – I’m happy to take on anyone, whoever has the British at the time.”

Hearn, meanwhile, name-checked Louie O’Doherty, a 25-year-old who has competed at lightweight and super lightweight, and, like Visioli, has won national titles, too.

“We’ve got to step [Visioli] up two or three levels,” Hearn told Ring. “I think he should fight for the British and Commonwealth titles now, he’s got all the ability, so let’s make the Louie O’Doherty fight.”

As for Moton, he’s 9-0 (7 KOs) at 19 years old, and last fought February 28 when he finished Wilfredo Flores in the second round of a MP Promotions card in Verona.

It’s unclear when Moton will next fight, but, according to a Boxing Social source with knowledge of the situation, it’s almost guaranteed he’ll have a prominent spot on the undercard of the Mayweather vs Manny Pacquiao rematch in September at The Sphere in Las Vegas.
